Subject:  Support of HB-8135

Dear Representative (Insert Reps Name),

I am a constituent in your district and a Physician Assistant at (*******). I write to respectfully urge your support for HB‑8135, which would require state and private insurers to reimburse nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs) at the same rate as physicians for equivalent services in the same area.

Why HB‑8135 Matters

Strengthens our healthcare workforce: NPs and PAs are critical to maintaining access to timely, high‑quality care—especially in primary care, behavioral health, and underserved communities. Fair reimbursement helps Rhode Island recruit and retain these professionals instead of losing them to neighboring states.

Expands patient access: Equitable pay supports team‑based care models, allowing practices to extend hours, reduce wait times, and improve continuity of care.

Aligns payment with value: NPs and PAs deliver the same evidence‑based services as physicians. Reimbursing them fairly corrects a long‑standing inconsistency between clinical value and payment policy.

Stabilizes community practices: Equal reimbursement helps small and independent practices remain financially viable, sustain staffing, and invest in patient care improvements.

As PAs, we see every day how provider shortages and bottlenecks affect patients. Fair payment for all qualified clinicians is key to a stronger, more efficient healthcare system.

For these reasons, I respectfully ask you to support and advance House Bill 8135 to strengthen Rhode Island’s workforce and improve patient access statewide.

Sincerely,
